MOTORING

Laws and regulations change from time-to-time so, as we are not able to ensure such information is kept up-to-date on this website, we will instead include useful links below. We cannot vouch for the veracity of the information on non-official websites ,so please treat any information as a guide only and if in doubt check with the official Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) website at
www.dgt.es. Most of the DGT website is only in Spanish but you can of course get a rough translation of most pages by using Google Translate or by browsing the site using Google’s free Chrome browser which offers automatic translation of website pages into your preferred language. The DGT website does seem to be gradually adding important/useful information in other languages such as the following about traffic violation tickets.

What to do if you have received a traffic or parking violation ticket:

The following page in English on the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) website explains very clearly what to do, how you can appeal, and how you can pay the fine:

They publish new articles every day, which they copy directly from the different Spanish Traffic Laws and translate them to give English speaking drivers a better understanding of the rules and regulations related to driving in Spain. You can also post questions to them via this page.
